Who we are
BBQ Map is a curated directory of barbecue businesses in Bristol and Somerset. The data controller for this site is Nathan James, sole trader, trading as “BBQ Map”. For anything about your data, including correcting or removing a listing, email hello@bbqmap.co.uk.
Where the information comes from
Listings on BBQ Map are sourced from publicly available business listings and Google Places, collected by automated means. We did not obtain this information from you directly. We publish it to help people find good barbecue, and we make it easy for any business to correct or remove its own entry.
What we hold
For each listing we may hold the business name, category and tags, address, town and postcode, a business phone number, website and social links, opening hours, and in some cases a business email. This is information about businesses, and most of it is not personal data.
Where a small business is run by a sole trader, a personal mobile number or a personal-style email address can amount to personal data. We suppress those by default. A sole trader's personal contact details are hidden on the public listing unless the business asks us to show them.
Why we can use it (lawful basis)
We rely on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) in running a useful, accurate public directory of barbecue businesses, and in helping people discover them. We've weighed this against the rights and interests of the businesses listed: we only publish business-facing contact details, suppress sole-traders' personal details by default, and honour every request to correct or remove a listing.
How long we keep it
We keep a listing for as long as we run the directory and the business is relevant to it. If we're asked to remove a listing, we remove it. We keep correction and removal requests only as long as we need them to action the request and to show we've done so.
Your rights, including the right to object
You can object to your listing, ask us to correct it, or have it removed at any time. No account, no charge. The quickest way is our correct-or-remove form, or email hello@bbqmap.co.uk. You also have rights to access the data we hold and, where they apply, to restrict or port it. We act on requests promptly and within the time the law allows.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
We don't cold-email scraped addresses
We do not send marketing or claim-your-listing emails to contact addresses we've collected. If a business owner hears from us about BBQ Map, it's a person reaching out by hand to a business they know, never an automated send to a scraped personal address.
Analytics
We keep analytics light and privacy-friendly: aggregate visit counts that help us see which listings are useful, with no advertising cookies and no attempt to identify or profile you.
Want a listing changed or taken down? Use the correct-or-remove form. It takes a minute and needs no account.
